COURSE OBJECTIVES

This course is for personnel wanting to utilise their 4x4 to its full capacity safely and efficiently.

It also meets the requirements for the Resources, Drilling, Mining & Infrastructure Sector, and gives the relevant qualification required by many mine sites.

 

DURATION

2 days

 

Please note: The course may be completed within a shorter or longer time frame depending on the experience and number of those in attendance.

 

COURSE CONTENT

The program addresses the following:

  • Pre journey planning
  • Environmental issues relating to 4WD usage
  • Convoy procedures and radio communications
  • 4WD systems both Part-Time and Full-Time & all related functions regarding both high range & low range use
  • Correct use of Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control Systems
  • Factors relating to mechanical issues with inappropriate use of 4WD features
  • Load security (external & internal) & identifying correct driving posture
  • Pre-departure checks and the required actions for identified deficiencies
  • Driving through rough rugged terrain, deep water ruts, steep and loose terrain safely while minimising environmental damage
  • Gravel road driving safety
  • Using spotters and identifying route selection
  • Water crossing safety
  • Factors relating to correct tyre pressures in varying terrain
  • Stop stall key start recovery procedure.
  • Single snatch strap recovery
  • Identifying correct recovery points
  • Select navigation equipment

ASSESSMENT METHOD

Knowledge assessment and practical demonstration.

 

PRE-REQUISITES

All persons must have good English literacy skills and hold a current drivers licence

 

CERTIFICATION

Upon successful completion, participants will be issued with the following nationally recognised Statement of Attainment;

  • RIIVEH305E Operate and maintain a four wheel drive vehicle
  • RIIVEH201D Operate light vehicle

MINIMUM NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS

Minimum of two participants.

 

WHAT TO WEAR

All course participants are required to wear appropriate work attire. Closed in shoes are a requirement for attendance on any course.

 

MORNING TEA

Coffee, tea and biscuits will be provided throughout the day. Fridge and microwave facilities are also available.

 

COURSE FEE

$600.00
